Clay is one of the soap-makers biggest secret ingredient…
You might have heard about clay's benefits in facial masks or other skincare products. Well, it's an amazing ingredient in soapmaking too.
Clay naturally and gently exfoliates the skin and removes all the impurities and oils. Besides the added benefits, clays also give soaps a natural color.
There are many types of clay and each of them are good for specific skin types.
So which clay is right for you?
Rhassoul Clay: this light brown clay has a great ability to absorb oils and impurities from the skin and hair.
Rhassoul clay is a popular clay for mature skin and an oily complexion because it is rich in minerals that work to regulate oil production.
French Green Clay: this clay has a large amount of nourishing minerals with strong detoxifying action.
It well removes toxins, dust, dead skin cells and other impurities commonly found on the skin. Perfect for normal to oily skin.
Bentonite Clay: created from volcanic ash, it can absorb excess oil better than other kinds of clay.
Since it's highly absorbent, it's a good one that can be used often if you have oily skin.
With this kind of clay the soap lather is thicker, slippery and silky and therefore perfect to use before shaving since it's acting as a protection for your skin. It also leaves a gentle exfoliating effect on the skin.
Kaolin clay: it's a very gentle clay, fine-grained clay with mild absorption properties, better for dry to normal skin and sensitive skin in general.
It improves circulation to the skin while gently exfoliates and cleanses.
